In light of the recent media attention to “passion killings” in Namibia, the citizens of Windhoek decided to take a stand against gender based violence. What better day to take a stand than Saturday, March 8, International Women’s Day? Saturday morning most of our group decided to wake up bright and early for “A Walk in Her Shoes,” a march to raise awareness about and fight gender based violence and passion crimes in Namibia. Hundreds of men wore high heels in protest and walked from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare to Zoo Park over the course of about ten minutes. It was a meaningful experience to see the community come together and fight for this cause. Many of us decided to leave our bystander status and join the crowd: walking, chanting, and laughing. As one, the crowd rang out, “Stop gender violence!” This experience truly made us feel part of the community of Windhoek.

ONE of two former lovers of a women who was brutally murdered in front of her two kids in Okahandja early last month was set free and the other remanded in custody on charges of murder, after two days of intensive police interrogation and a witness pointing out the suspect during an identity parade.
Paulus Andreas, 28, who was already a fugitive from the law before his subsequent arrest in Rundu two days after the killing, appeared in the Okahandja Magistrates’ Court last week Monday, where he was denied bail, with his next appearance in court set for 14 May.
According to Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Moses Khairabeb, Andreas, who was the victim’s ex-boyfriend, and the second suspect who was the victim’s partner at the time, were arrested after eyewitnesses placed both the two suspects at the scene of the crime.
He said the current boyfriend, during initial police interrogation accused Andreas of committing the heinous crime, after he apparently saw him leaving the house with a metal pipe in hand.
The body of the victim was discovered after the police were called to her residence in Okahandja’s Nau-Aib residential area on the evening of the murder.
According to Khairabeb, the victim’s wounds pointed to a struggle, as she bore a large gash on her head inflicted with some sort of blunt object and had visible marks on her neck, which indicate that she might have been strangled as well.

The body of a young woman was found in a open stretch of desert near Walvis Bay’s Narraville suburbs yesterday.
It is suspected she was murdered at a shack in Kuisebmond.
Her killer dumped the body in a wheeled dustbin and carted it to the spot where she was dumped.
The track left by the dustbin lead the police straight to the shack where the killing was thought to have taken place.
At the time of going to press the shack was still cordoned off as a crime scene.
The murder took place approximately a week after the national prayer day to stop gender based violence.

Windhoek — A shocking 36 women have died at the hands of their lovers since January 2013 to date, in what could be categorized as "passion killings", according to the latest crime statistics availed to New Era by the Namibian Police (Nampol).
Of the 36 cases, 25 murder cases were recorded in 2013 while this year 12 cases were reported in the first two months of this year so far.
Although females are usually the victims, six women were charged with killing their male partners or spouses while men committed the rest of the murders.
Three male suspects committed suicide after their heinous deeds, in which either a knife, firearm or traditional weapon was used as murder weapon.
Nampol described passion killing as murder cases between intimate partners such as husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, ex-husband/ex-wife or ex-boyfriend/ex-girlfriend.
Omusati leads with the highest number of passion killing cases in the country with eight cases, followed by Kavango West and Kavango East with seven cases.
//Karas, Omaheke and Ohangwena regions have each reported four cases of gender based killings while Hardap Region recorded three.
Khomas Region follows suit with two cases, of which one murder was committed just last Saturday while Otjozondjupa Region recorded two cases as well.
Oshana, Oshikoto and Erongo each documented one case of crime of passion killing since January 2013.
No cases of such a nature were reported from Zambezi and Kunene regions.
In cases in which seven women were beheaded over the period, the commonly used weapon was a knife, panga, axe, pistol or strangulation, while a rifle, shoelace, stick and fire were also used in each incident.
The year 2014 started off on a gruesome note with January alone breaking the record with seven cases and five cases in February so far.
Almost all of last year, with the exception of October, four passion killings were committed each month from January through March.
The killings slowed down to one killing each month from April to July, only to pick up again in August and September with two murders and three murders in November and December 2013.
The Nampol statistics indicate that most suspects were in their twenties when they committed the violent acts, while the victims were also in their twenties.
This is followed by the second highest number of both victims and suspects of crimes of passion being in the thirties age group.
The youngest suspect was a 19-year-old male while the oldest suspect was a 64-year-old at the time they were accused of committing the crime.
The youngest victim was an 18-year-old female while the oldest victim was a 64-year-old female.
Police strongly believe that most of the passion crime accused committed these acts while they were under the influence of either alcohol or drugs.
"Although the causes of gender-based violence (GBV) varies, according to researchers, the notable motives of such heinous crimes range from customs, traditional beliefs, illiteracy and limited education, unequal power relations and low status of women," said Nampol in a statement.
The police also strongly believe that alcohol, drugs and jealousy accompanied by greed and social inequality contribute to these incidents.
According to Nampol, one of the challenges associated with GBV is that the crime is committed in the private sphere of the home, while gender inequality is the root cause and the premature withdrawal of GBV cases by some complainants is an additional contributing factor.
"Both men and women need to stand up against those men who disrespect women in our communities," reads a statement by the police.

8 CHARACTERISTIC OF A GOOD MAN

1.lOVE YOU THE WAY YOU ARE

2.HONESTY
Honesty is very important also. Not just honesty to you, but also his honesty to other people. If he is quick to lie to his boss or even his friend than he probably can’t be trusted. One day it may leave you doubting his word.

3. FINANCIALLY SOUND

A characteristic of a good man isn’t that he makes a lot of money, but that he... handles his money well. Even a man with a fat pay check can be broke. Take time to figure out how he uses credit cards and if he bothers to save money.

4. SENSE OF HUMOR

One of my favorite characteristics of a good man is a sense of humor. I love a guy that can make me laugh and enjoys laughing too. I couldn’t handle being in a relationship with a guy who lacked humor.

5. EASY GOING

I also want someone I can feel at ease talking to. If you have to walk around on egg shells or feel anxious to be around a person, it just doesn’t seem right.

6. RESPECTFUL

Another characteristic of a good man is respect. He needs to have manners and treat others with respect. He also needs to be someone that deserves respect. The worse thing is to be around someone who is unnecessarily rude to others and acts inappropriately.

7. FAMILY ORIENTATED
Does he value family? He may not come from the best family, but a characteristic of a good man is having family values. He needs to understand the importance of having parents as good role models and the benefits of a tight family bond, even if that isn’t the life he’s had.

8. DRIVEN

Having goals and motivation is another characteristic of a good man. You want someone that is always trying to do better and is driven to try harder at everything he does. That means he will always try his best to please you.

Finding a man with characteristics of a good man isn’t hard. Keeping these characteristics in mine will help you weed out the bad guys and focus on the good ones. What are some characteristics of a good man that you like?
LET US PRAY ... President Hifikepunye Pohamba, in a special address to the nation, announced that the Criminal Procedure Act of 1977 will be amended, in order to tighten the requirements for bail in cases of gender-based violence. He declared 6 March as the national day of prayer against violence. -

As violence against women continues unabated, the Women's Action for Development -WAD is calling on employers to initiate workplace educational programs for men.

Such programs should not only teach them the rights of women to life but their responsibility towards a peaceful and harmonious society.

Its Director Veronica de Klerk said gender based violence has become a disease and if not treated sooner it will only spiral out of control.
The issue of gender violence should generate a reaction of sympathy or even empathy, but it must also be a call for justice. Justice for those perpetrating the crime and justice for systems that excuse the violence of the offender.
DO YOU REALLY THINK DEATH PENALTY IS THE OPTION? BECAUSE MOST SUSPECTS COMMIT SUICIDE AFTER THE BRUTAL ACT ......GIVE YOU SUGGESTION/ IDEA PLEASE!!!
